Thank you for the Michael Stipe article! I rarely finish an article that long (though I often click and scroll through your newsletter to the end :). Now I’m listening to rem, feeling nostalgic for all the times I’ve never listened to them before.
That mile high bathroom joint finally makes me understand my mother’s disappointment in my brother and I for watching stuff like Tom Green and Jackass during the late 90s and early aughts. 😩
I saw the Ricky Montgomery TT. My $.02: everyone either focuses on mainstream media or social and people ignore what I call the mesoculture. The culture in between. Things like live performance, independent press, etc., anything thats not quite either is the point. Look at Joe Rogan or Adam Friedland. Why they live large? They had stand up as well as ties to msm and social. It's one more hurdle, but it is one that helps build community.
that’s a good reminder, that these things ultimately are about ~ community ~ which...is easy to forget. i do think though it doesn’t solve that porousness of the “same tools” being used, how animals all sort of devolve into crabs which can feel the same for big and small operations. or, at least, it seems increasingly non-sustainable that such worlds can live and thrive separately (but we can dream!!)
