I wonder if the fact that we're having kids later/ not at all has something to do with this inability to grow up? When you have a child you are forced into the inescapable reality of adulthood, but in a way that bestows you with a sense of responsibility and importance, one which prevents you from sinking into the quagmire of depression and "is this it?"ness that lingers when you have enough time to consider yourself and your surroundings (as opposed to being awash with parent hormones and connected to a higher sense of purpose/ too busy changing nappies and removing small fingers from plug sockets and monitoring nascent social media presences to have time or energy to contemplate your own existence). A longwinded thought.

you're cooking here: i think this is *exactly* it, which all these "delays" in adult markers contributeto this sort of unplaceable, subconscious "what *am* i?"-ness that defaults to a play-the-pain-away mode. i think it's complicated by people in their mid-to-late thirties (a la: me lol) realizing that we've been in this cultural holding pattern for almost twenty years. plus! there's the long echo of late aughts/early 2010s stories of how the parents of millennials were helicopter parents. is this simply all comfort behavior? unsure but, yes, we all need to do some volunteer work or find some sort of (secular) "higher calling" to push us out from the grasp of the proverbial nest.

“This is actually how I feel all the time” bestie, same

Funny enough my month is January and I cooked my quesadilla for supper in that exact pan (cue Did you guys hear that? I’m scared)

My friend’s Gen A kid told me “the teletubbies are haunted” and I had to set him straight on that one 😂 open the schools indeed!!! *seconding my shock over Camila Cabello thinking she can get away with this era, I hope she flops like Jesy Nelson 😬

Tbh it was at least encouraging his gen knows who teletubbies are - I always fear gen A is gonna lose so much media history without those VH1 80s/90s compilation shows - as a kid I INHALED that programming, I argue gen a needs VJs and talking heads just like we had!!
