Thoroughly enjoyed this! Both your commentary on the state of work and queerness.

I'm in my mid 30's, with a wife, I am also a wife.

And I remember a conversation I had with a Gen Z once, when they found out I'm an "elder" gay, how cool she thought I was and uncool she, herself, was because she liked men (even though she tried not to.) And I couldn't help but chuckle and think "wow, how the tides have shifted"

A few short years ago I had to fear for my life walking down the streets, not daring to hold hands with my girlfriend, and now I've been promoted to "a cool elder" status. I shall accept this honorable distinction.

I'm in awe of how much information you churn through and 'process' in these posts. Seriously.

Oh my goodness "Getting paid to “do the thing you love” as a creative is not reality: it’s an unreal promise that the tech industry gave us, to exploit us before discarding us — and we’re at the end of that lifecycle" is harrowing.

"Come set up your art / music / photo career on our platform, engage with your audience!" then became "oh wait, pay us to reach your fans, and also we just locked you out of your account for no reason."

YOU GOT THIS!!!!!! just don't...beat yourself up if you aren't / aren't always "working as a writer": that's not the point. the point is to write and share your writing! at some time in the near future, i'm going to do a larger post on best practices for creatives who want to work as creatives — and a lot of it has to do with just being consistent and finding the joy in what you do (versus the money). be on the lookout! i've gotten a few notes similar to yours and keep the hope alive 🦋
