I would say that of all the potential future rockstars listed on the substack, either draq queen or showrunner are good bets. I feel all the other ones will be easier to replace with AI but showrunner, less so because no one will take orders from a robot. As for drag queen, it is still mostly a live space so an android/cyborh drag queen is a stretch.

I think that professional preparedness experts will be the next Rockstars. No one is prepared for ___ (fill in the blank) and that whole “tin-hat bunker living crazy person” stereotype needs some updating, especially in places like ___ (fill in the blank) that are being slammed by extreme weather events.

One part Marie Kondo (organizing) one part Martha Stewart (style) part Boy Scout (preparedness). Prepping goes mainstream!

Great article but I'm confused. How was the director the rock star in the 80s? The only directors on your list to release films in the 80s were Spieilberg and Ephron. I would say the 90s was a decade in which white men, having mainly lost ground to rappers after grunge and before Eminem (who got real respect in 2000) aspired to be directors.

fair point and i can agree! i think the thinking is that the era (a la the 1980s) was when the cultural work was being done (or “indie” work) so that the director could be The Director in the 1990s, a figure who was at that point a celebrity. the 1980s arguably has more! it was like EVERYTHING became an “it” aspiration, from Fitness Star to Cop, etc.
