"There’s a larger story about the 2020s being the decade the courts didn’t just die but they became entertainment spaces used to advance conservative ideology. " -- definitely, though I think relating it to conservative ideology is limiting and missing the way this is playing out in a much larger sense. Cases like Karen Read or Richard Allen or Bryan Kohbuerger weren't really tied to politics but made a spectacle of the criminal justice system nonetheless. It's basically become fandom, with lawyers and defendants being fan objects. Some of the cases are absolutely used to advance political ideologies, but I think it's a much bigger problem than just that.
Stockholm is absolutely amazing in the summer, I hope you enjoy it!
this is VERY true as far as it not even needing to be big or famous cases to get in there. oy. it's fascinating and...i'm sure someone else has a much smarter take on this! also thank you and recs re: stockholm are welcome as we know nothing as of now lol
Ohh well it's been a while since I was there so a lot of my recs might be outdated... but I will say definitely check out the subway art (I think there are online guides to the best subway stations to check out for this) and Trädgården/Under Bron is a club under a bridge which has a bigtime festival feel. I'm not a clubbing person in general but I try to visit it if I'm in town in the summer. A lot of downtown is very walkable and ~aesthetic with tons of bridges (the city is built on 14 islands). Kulturhuset often has free art exhibits that might be worth checking out. Love a good walk in the old town but the shops/restaurants there are definitely overpriced, though there is a mediaval pub called Sjätte Tunnan that sells actual mead that might be a fun experience.
Great essay on rage bait. Two things to add: while rage bait is everywhere, it is all that AI slop is. The racist videos, even The Velvet Sundown fiasco. The creator of that band admitted as much. I would even say all AI music is rage bait, always meant to be a prank (or a shitpost, if we want to sound current).
Second thing: this rage is the culmination of forty years of our culture of fear. My piece Your Own Private Idaho delves into this deeper but let's not forget that the lesson is not to wag our fingers at rage, but to look at where all this is coming from.
forty years of a culture of fear + polycrisis (as someone else mentioned) seems to be it which...at what point do we hit the giant reset button? it feels like we're getting close?? i'd hope???? who knows ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ same as it ever was, etc.
These are ALWAYS Incredibly Beautiful prompts! Thank you! 🙏🏾
thank YOu for reading cyprian!!!!!
