🏛️ Politicultural: The final act of a livestreamed genocide

Every week, every month, there is a new low as far as the brutality being waged against Israel on the people of Palestine. Bombing schools and hospitals, murders at aid centers, breaking a ceasefire, spreading the conflict to Iran and Syria: it is relentless terror, all of which is playing out in one of the most visible manners witnessed in history, devastations that have become “typical” on our feeds and of media, raising awareness but also desensitizing us to both the suffering and the imagery. Somehow, the bar for even falls lower as we’re witnessing the results of a clearly targeted starvation campaign against the people of Gaza, which we got glimpses of in June but is coming to a grim state now as more than a hundred aid groups and doctors and health officials declare famine. Not just “people are hungry” but that “mass starvation is occurring,” resulting in doctors too weak to treat patients, in skeletal children and babies dying of hunger and malnutrition.

• What can you do about this? Talk about it! Don’t shut up about it!! Yes, donate wherever, but this is also a matter of calling it what it is: a livestreamed genocide that has gone on for too long. “I find it so unbelievably evil,” Ana Kasparian yelled on Piers Morgan’s show this week. “Seeing all these kids desperate, hungry, parentless, trapped in Gaza — and you’re sitting here defending it.” That is an appropriate response.
