🤩 Hollyweird Insider: AI entertainment has arrived
Two weeks ago, I wrote about the trend of videos featuring AI fruit fucking each other. Last week, I wrote about Chinese AI slap memes. This week, I’m declaring something that I noted on TikTok that I’m reluctant but obligated to share: we’ve reached the AI-as-entertainment tipping point. What did it? Adaptations of Love Island featuring horny AI fruit, thanks to accounts like @fruit.love.island1 (which are being banned and unbanned). This may sound ridiculous but videos in this genre are getting millions upon millions of views, all of which is inspiring a discourse about this being slop and awful and proof that we are cooked, given people are seriously watching and fawning over characters like Cherita and Kiwilo and Strawberina. This may — and is, for now — a momentary and silly trend but, considering months ago we had Kirkification aimed at posters and a year ago we had Italian brain rot aimed at kids and two years ago we had AI Drag Race accounts aimed at gays, such entertainment made from AI is a nuclear bomb for everyone else. This comes upon news that Ballerina Capuccina and Tung Tung Sahur are in Fortnite, the comedian Connor O’Malley dropping an AI-infused sketch, and the artist Jordan Wolfson going all in on AI for Prada: this may be the point of no return as far as AI entertainment, as this has broken down the door to make AI-as-entertainment fully acceptable for some. People will complain, people will be annoyed, but this declares that two or three years of slop posting has finally worn us down enough to enjoy reruns of a show we loved better remade with fruit. The question is: will such content survive if and when the AI bubble bursts thanks to the Strait of Hormuz blockage? Will AI fruit Love Island be our Seth Green NFT show moment? Will we see an Annoying Orange comeback?
🏛️ Politicultural: Will the Rama drama matter?
Rama Duwaji, the wife of Zohran Mamdani, is in a lot of hot water. Why? Her art and old social media posts have caused an uproar. Her posts from more than a decade ago are drawing scrutiny for being homophobic and racist along with her artwork being anti-Israel. This push is a big right wing smear, and is being looked at in a few ways: online queer people (Gay men.) are finding this to be hilarious, the Black community isn’t too happy about this, and the zionist crowd is cranking their same drivel. This has inspired a lot of memes and thoughts of her having gone to the 2010s Tumblr university, where woke teens went to be radicalized. To that, it’s important to note these posts are from 2013 and Rama is now 28: as has been pointed out, she was 15 when this happened. This isn’t an excuse, but something that should be considered when we look at similar “issues” from the right, from Melania Trump to a fleet of adult young Republicans: how far and how long does such outrage extend? This does and doesn’t matter, but is another test of Woke 2.0 on both sides: can Rama and Zohran own it, apologize, and move on? Can the left make ammends? Or will this be an ongoing thorn suggesting that we would rather rip a wound bigger and bigger, stabbing ourself instead of figuring out how to collectively dress the wound? This is a test, which largely “will not matter” but the echoes of it — Especially of racism! — will be felt. Seems like we need to fix this woke gap relationship, Zohran.
