Who's going to take the "devastating blow to the English language" slang and turn it into the next examination of masculinity disguised as sci-fi like Gibson with slang he heard on the streets of Toronto in Neuromancer or Burgess with Clockwork Orange?
Love that "new Gen-Z led progressive content hub" with no video, images, links, default About page text, and that hasn't been updated in three days š
Not a pitch for my Substack, but Iām finishing an essay about how we are all nihilists now ā whether we know it or not. The death of the commons both as a concept, but more importantly as a felt quality of being a human being amongst human beings, is the tragedy of our moment.
Itās definitely on the nerdy as hell philosophy side of things, but hopefully not illegible to a non-specialist. Iāll tighten a few screws and kick you a draft.
Really tired of grown-ass men writing badly edited cultural critique about how "we" don't know how to live anymore. Don't you have any dignity or shame? You're an adult and you spend your weekend whine-posting. There are a gajillion cultural options in front of you-- including the model of collective action we have built in the twin cities-- and you don't know how to make anything original or interesting from that? You feel lost? Maybe you are the loser and should stand down from the posting and podcasting and help out the people who are actually building things, my dude.
Thatās the best response you can muster? No wonder men whine about loneliness. No wonder your writing reads like someone who loves the smell of his own farts.
Anyway, you are podcasting with someone who hitched his wagon to the worst people in media 20 years ago, and you arenāt starting meaningful conversations so much as whining about the externalities of media economies you helped create.
so, this is all very interesting and i'm thankful you took the time not just to read this post but to read me. as i always tell people, i look at the internet and the world like a book and try to point out the storyline: this was one of them. if that wasn't agreeable, my apologies! but again: thank you for reading!!
anyway, my door is always open. hope you are well! thank you again!!
Wow, gross! It is foolish to believe that you are "reading" the internet like a book when you are adding to its worst feature: a bunch of middle-aged white men with a bunch of extra time on their hands leeching off the careers of younger people, especially younger women, to build their audience.
Personally I look at the internet as a series of individual and business decisions. Men who believe they are contributing to culture by "reading the internet" (literally the worst way to participate in a conversational medium) have recreated the patriarchal dynamics of all the failed media companies that came before you. your decisions on both the individual and business sides of online discourse are self-serving and imbecilic.
