I recommend listening to the new album Lux from Rosalia. It’s very challenging but quite approachable.
These songs really worked for me this year:
“Midnight Sun” by Zara Larsson
“Illegal” by Pink Parentheses
“The Fate of Ophelia” (Acoustic) by Taylor Swift
“Metal” by The Beths
That’s just off the top of my head. It’s easy to gloom and doom but I am still finding music that I find compelling. Even the easy pop songs have layers but you need to actually listen closely instead of scrolling your phone while half listening.
okay YES to all of this, especially Lux and especially Midnight SUn and Illegal!!!! i haven't listened to the other two but you're exactly right. thank you for the reminder!!!!!!
I was interested in this idea of a culture recession and it made me consider where the UK music scene is in relation to this so I wrote about it. Would be interested to get your thoughts -
yes!!! and, paired with things like the UK's "we have to scan your face" thing, privacy is becoming VERY elusive. but the tea app thing is SO concerning — and so awful! weaponizing social media to enact misogyny.
Simon Pegg’s daughter repeatedly saying that a movie about sexual assault made her uncomfortable and her dad telling her “aha, yeah, see, that’s what you don’t get” is hard to hear tbh

this is great!!! and i totally agree, that it's a problem of the "too much"-ness thing, which may also be an issue with the funnel
The Tea app saga has me! There is a subreddit /r/MensRights speaking out about it & it’s truly interesting how “social media is ruining privacy.”

i mean that's fair, even if i think that flattens the idea
"We love a Harmony Korine coded blue pilled dgaf Gen Xannie dad!" no wonder you won the pulitzer!
that's exactly why!!!!
